Happy American Heart Month!

Finding Time to Exercise

Why is finding time to exercise so important? Well, did you know that cardiovascular diseases are our nations number one killer? That is amazing...our number one killer is something that we have substantial control over. For this reason, February has been deemed "American Heart Month" in an effort to bring awareness to this problem. Is it a coincidence that "American Heart Month" is the same month as Valentine's Day? Hmmm...well, I don't know. But, we should take care of our heart for the ones we love and for ourselves.

Okay, Okay...I know finding time to exercise can fall to the wayside in the midst of grocery shopping, cleaning, working, paying the bills and being your child's personal assistant...just to name a few. There is no doubt that you are busy and you are tired, but exercise is a must...there's no weight loss tip or trick around that. So, here are some tips I have used for finding time to exercise and fighting the battle of the bulge. [Read More for the Top 10 Tips]

Ride for Your Heart!

So, maybe you don't like to run, or it's too cold to go for walk, or you have bad knees. Riding the stationary bike isn't a bad option...believe me, it can still kick your butt! Try this workout. I call it the Mississippi Ride because I initally designed it for a friend of mine back in Mississippi. Remember, getting your heart rate up and breaking a sweat is the key. You can run, walk, bike, or even dance your way to a healthier heart. It's up to you, but it's time to make time!

Caffeine and Pregnancy

Do you know your caffeine facts? When I first found out that I was pregnant, it finally hit me that I needed to get serious about my caffeine intake and find out the caffeine facts! I get it… you just gave up your delicious glass of evening wine for the next 9 months and now you are supposed to cut out your beloved Grande Cappuccino?

Ahhhh! Well, the good news is that you don’t have to completely cut out caffeine, but as stated by the American Pregnancy Association, you should limit your caffeine to 150-300mg per day. [Read More]

Swap It!

Fat Free Reddi Wip vs. Extra Creamy Reddi Wip

I know what you're thinking. One serving of Extra Creamy Reddi Wip only has 20 calories, what's the big deal? However, don't tell me you use just one tablespoon. Most people use 2 or even 3 tablespoons full to top off their jello snack, smoothie treat, or coffee. Now you're up to 40 or 60 calories. Just by swapping the the Extra Creamy version for the fat free Reddi Wip, you can save 30 to 40 calories without sacrificing taste. I don't know about you, but I will take the savings where I can get it!

Recipe of the Month

Are you one of those people that stops by Starbucks every day before work or as a "treat" in the middle of the day to give you that boost to chase your kids around all afternoon? If the Starbuck employees know you by name, then this recipe is for you.

I looked up my favorite drink, tall White Chocolate Mocha...a little piece of heaven is what I like to call it. So, even when I stripe it of all its goodness (make it a nonfat, no-whip) a tall packs 270 calories and 45 grams of sugar...ouch!

Moral of the story, save yourself a 150 calories (and your 4 bucks!) and enjoy the French Vanilla Kiss Mocha...with the whip cream!
